New Title Discusses Peace in the Midst of a Storm

Maitland, FL (PRWEB) November 19, 2011

When life has taken a turn for the worse do you pray for peace? God will give you peace during your storm. Disaster ($ 16.99 paperback, ISBN 9781613798423) reminds readers that even during the worst storms, God is present to give you peace. Michael Sprague explains that circumstances arise in our lives, but if you hold to Gods Word, He will give you peace. Dr. Sprague explains that fear will keep you bogged in your situation. Disaster was written against the backdrop of Hurricane Katrina.

Within the pages of Disaster, the lives of people who were broken and crushed yet survived the worst storm that could be thrown at them, emerged as tools in the hands of a God who is full of kingdom surprises and purposes. Dr. Sprague compares parables from the bible regarding adversity using stories like David and Goliath, Daniel and the Lions Den and the story of Moses; explaining that these stories all have one thing in common. There is hope, even when life feels like checkmate, becausethe King still has one more move.

Disaster encourages readers to bet the farm on God. You will not lose when you give your entire situation to God. The type of faith Dr. Sprague describes is not the kind that waivers. You must have complete and total faith that giving God your all will manifest miracles.

Dr. Michael Sprague is the president of Grace Adventures, a Bible-based, Christ-centered, grace-motivated, kingdom-building ministry that reaches out to political, business, and spiritual leaders. Michael has worked in ministry for twenty-seven years as a pastor. He helped launch the Touch Global Crisis Response Ministry for the Evangelical Free Churches of America that is now multiplying churches and compassion ministry around the world after natural disasters. Michael received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. Michael and his wife, Donna, have been married for twenty-nine years and have one son, Jonathan.

The Disaster Resource Navigator eliminates having piles of notes to sort through or lose during a natural disaster or emergency.

The Disaster Resource Navigator application is intuitive for radio and TV broadcasters of all levels of experience. Minimal typing is required with only 3 data fields. All data is automatically saved – no buttons to click, just enter the data on the fly and it will be saved automatically.

The Disaster Resource Navigator user interface provides a simple and intuitive interface for the user. Users can click on a category and the Resource List is instantly populated with all resources providing that particular service. Hot buttons are provided for immediate access to the most critical information.

The application includes a U.S. state, county and city database which can be setup for specific defaults and favorites – minimizing the number of items on the drop-down selection lists. Built in category lists are provided and new categories can be added as needed. The software also includes an activity logger to easily comply with FCC reporting requirements.

The software design is based on a “Real Life” scenario. In April 2011, tornadoes devastated many areas in Alabama with a record breaking 53 in one day throughout the state. Riverview Software Solutions is located in the northeastern section of the state where nine of the 53 caused severe damage.

A local FM station operated under FCC emergency broadcast rules for many days and fielded numerous phone calls from the general public, local businesses and other local service agencies. The FM station became a crucial communications hub that helped citizens find much needed supplies and provided the location of resources throughout the area.

Riverview Software Solutions design team monitored this activity and discovered that after days of taking notes and relaying information, the station staff had so many notes and occasionally, finding the desired information for callers was starting to take a considerable amount of time. There had to be a better way so the Riverview team set out to develop this software application.

Should a natural disaster strike a community in the future, having the Disaster Resource Navigator will be an essential tool for quickly providing information to the public.

Grainger and American Red Cross Win U.S. Chamber of Commerce Corporate Citizen Partnership Award

Lake Forest, IL (PRWEB) November 22, 2011

North Americas leading industrial supplier Grainger (NYSE: GWW) and the American Red Cross were honored with the 2011 Corporate Citizenship Award for Best Partnership by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Citizens Award honors excellence in corporate citizenship and civic leadership for initiatives in both the United States and across the world. The United States Chamber of Commerce Business Civic Leadership Center (BCLC) recognized the Red Cross and Grainger for developing the corporate volunteer program, Ready When the Time Comes designed to build a network of response volunteers in advance of a disaster.

Both Grainger and the American Red Cross are in the business of meeting urgent needs, said Jim Ryan, Chairman, President and CEO of Grainger. Our joint commitment has engaged not only people of both our organizations but also hundreds of other businesses in a remarkable effort to recruit and train our employees as Red Cross volunteers.

Currently nearly 14,000-volunteers strong, Ready When the Time Comes mobilizes specially trained individuals to help communities impacted by disasters. Today, 460 companies and organizations from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses — across 52 cities in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico participate in Ready When the Time Comes.

The work of Grainger and the American Red Cross is the definition of a successful corporate/non-profit partnership, said Stephen Jordan, U.S. Chamber BCLC Founder and Executive Director. Their support of the Ready When the Time Comes program has made communities throughout the United States safer and more secure in the event of a disaster.

The Ready When the Time Comes nationwide business community has helped increase the American Red Cross volunteer response capacity by 40 percent in just six years in the communities where the program is active. The program was particularly vital during the turbulent 2011 Spring season and during Hurricane Irene, as volunteers staffed shelters and conducted damage assessments from North Dakota to Puerto Rico, and along the east coast.

For example, a group of employees from Grainger served as volunteers in Red Cross shelters in the Memphis area when Mississippi River flood waters overtook the region this spring. The Grainger volunteers helped run the shelter, were there to support residents who needed a sympathetic ear, and even played with kids to give their parents a break. Andriana Allen, Grainger Customer Service Associate, described her experience as life-altering: It will change your life. It will change the way you see other people; it will knock down barriers. It will change the way you perceive people, just from helping one time.

In 2001, Grainger joined with the Red Cross to develop Ready When the Time Comes in Chicago. The unprecedented events of Hurricane Katrina brought to light the challenges many communities face in times of disaster and the unique opportunities businesses have to help. As the programs National Founding Sponsor, Grainger has donated more than $ 13 million to the American Red Cross in cash, product and employee resources for preparedness and response initiatives as well as helped trained nearly 1,400 Ready When the Time Comes volunteers.

BCLC is the U.S. Chambers resource and voice for business social and philanthropic interests, with a mission to advance the positive role of business in society. The Corporate Citizenship Awards exemplify the continued evolution of corporate citizenship, defining its movement from the periphery of business activity to the strategic alignment with the core of a company. The Best Partnership category raises public awareness of worthy social causes by allowing peoples choice voting to select the winner. In 2011, more than 44,500 people participated in the voting, setting an all-time record for this five-year-old category.

New Memoir Recalls the 2005 Hurricane Katrina Disaster

Elkins Park, PA (PRWEB) November 23, 2011

Theres no doubt that Hurricane Katrina was one of the most devastating weather events to hit the United States costing lives, property and prosperity. In Catastrophic Gumbo: Part I: The Signature Series (published by Trafford Publishing), author Alvin JacQues provides a firsthand look at the facts, drama, details and aftermath of this powerful storm.

Former secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt once said, the big lesson I learned from Hurricane Katrina is that we have to be thinking about the unthinkable because sometimes the unthinkable happens. The best way to avoid the unthinkable the tragic loss of life, the overwhelming devastation and property damage — is to learn from the example of previously-thought-unthinkable events, and Catastrophic Gumbo provides clear examples.

A survivor of Hurricane Katrina, JacQues considers himself lucky to be alive, and he credits his strong faith in God for both his survival and the opportunity to tell his story. In this memoir, he examines the enormous devastation and causalities and tells a heroic tale of survival. Catastrophic Gumbo includes more than 30 stories that describe what really happened during this natural disaster including his rescue by the Coast Guard, his experience of six days of chaos at the Superdome, the drowning of his mother, the ever-present death and destruction that he witnessed and the corruption of the New Orleans Police Department.

A compelling account, Catastrophic Gumbo gives a behind-the-scenes and personal look at the before, during, and after of this tragedy that hit Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama in 2005.

Government Contractors Needed in Virginia Immediately, According to US Federal Contractor Registration

St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) November 23, 2011

US Federal Contractor Registration is reporting an immediate demand for registered businesses to work federal government contracts in Virginia. At this time, there are over 850 listings on the FedBizOpps website posted by contracting officers looking for vendors to bid on available work.

Over $ 824 million has been spent on federal contracts in the state of Virginia during FY 2012 alone, 7.32% of the total spent nationwide since October 1st according to the USASpending website. Following the devastation left by the historic storm, Hurricane Irene FEMA contracts are expected to drive government spending in the region even higher.

According to the USASpending website, approximately 70% of all contracting dollars spent in Virginia over the last year were competed and put out for open bidding by contractors. Small businesses in particular are urged to complete registration and place bids for contracts. Of the 196,552 contracts awarded in Virginia over the past year, over 43% were awarded to small businesses. Each federal agency is urged by regulations to award at least 23% of their contracting dollars to small businesses.

The highest numbers of contracts awarded to small businesses were for Computer Related Services, Engineering Services, Administrative Management, Office Furniture and Ship Building/Repairs however contracting agencies in Virginia purchased everything from Aircraft Components to Weapons. As FEMA and other agencies continue to address the damage left by Hurricane Irene and the DC Earthquake earlier this year, contractors who specialize in debris removal, construction and road repair are still in high demand. An in-depth look at current contracting opportunities in Virginia can be obtained by calling the Contractor Helpline at (877) 252-2700 ext 1.

The Georgia Tech Procurement Assistance Center has estimated that nearly 20% of CCR records errors or omissions. It is extremely important that contractors CCR and ORCA registration are complete and accurate. Failure to complete and maintain the required government registrations can result in payment delays or disqualification for contract awards. Serious errors may even result in fines or punitive action. To win their first contract, most businesses spend an average of 20 months and $ 100,000 marketing their business to contracting agencies. If their registration is incomplete or incorrect, all that time and money will have been wasted.

To help small businesses avoid costly errors, US Federal Contractor Registration is offering a free evaluation and review of vendors government registration, including their CCR registration and ORCA filing. During the evaluation, a Placement Specialist will review the companys government contractor registration to ensure it is complete, contains the correct information and is optimized to help them win government contracts. To receive this free evaluation, interested businesses should contact the toll free Contractor Helpline at (877) 252-2700 ext 1. Placement Specialists can also prepare a free government contracting profitability assessment to help business owners review government spending trends within their industry and identify current contracting opportunities.

US Federal Contractor Registration is a third party registration firm that has helped thousands of businesses complete their CCR registration and bid on contracts. US Federal Contractor Registration pairs businesses with a dedicated case manager who helps them every step of the way from initial registration to bidding on contracts.
